There are a few different reasons the MDHearing app may not be connecting to your hearing aids. Please check the following:
-
Bluetooth is on. Before beginning, make sure the Bluetooth is active on your smartphone or tablet device.
-
Hearing aid is turned on and has ample battery. The app may no longer work when the hearing aid battery is low (even if the aid is still working). This is because the app connection requires more power than the hearing aid amplification.
- For battery-powered hearing aids, please insert a fresh battery into the aid.
- For rechargeable hearing aids, please place the hearing aid(s) the charging case until fully charged. See your user manual for charging information.
-
Hearing aid is within range. Bluetooth has a limited connection range. Make sure the hearing aid is within six (6) feet of the smartphone or tablet.
- No other device is connected to the hearing aid. If you use the MDHearing app on multiple devices (such as two smartphones, or a smartphone and a tablet), you will only be able to connect to one device at a time. Make sure the app is completely closed on the other device.
If the app is still unable to connect to your hearing aid(s) after confirming all of the above, please try the following steps:
Forget the device
- Navigate to the "Settings" tab at the bottom of the screen.
- Select either "Left Device" or "Right Device" under "Device Information", depending on which aid you are trying to connect.
- Scroll down and select "Forget This Device" from the menu.
- Minimize the app and navigate to the Bluetooth settings on your mobile device.
- If the hearing aid(s) and your Bluetooth device have been connected previously, they will show in “My devices” for iOS users, or in “Paired devices" for Android users.
- In your Bluetooth devices, you should see the hearing aid(s) named, such as "VOLT MAX."
-
Select your hearing aid (on iOS, you will click the blue "i" to the right of the device name) and select "Forget this device" or "Unpair".
- Repeat this step for all instances of the hearing aid device in your Bluetooth devices list, regardless of how many appear in the list.

Reconnect the device
- Finally, reopen the MDHearing app.
- If either of your hearing aids was previously paired to the app, there should be a pop-up requesting permission for your phone to connect to that device.
- Allow the devices to connect by pressing "OK". (Please note, some Android devices may not have this prompt.)
- At this time, you will want to navigate to the "Settings" tab at the bottom of the screen again.
- Under "Device Information", select the device you are trying to connect.
- Scroll down and select "Set up Left/Right device"
- Follow the prompts to try and connect the hearing aid(s) again.
We hope these suggestions correct the connection difficulties you're experiencing. If you are still unable to connect your device, please contact customer support for further assistance.
