______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
This feature is for MDHearingAid (previously LifeEar) CORE users only.
If you are not completely satisfied with the sound after having completed the hearing personalization, you can further customize each program with the advanced audio settings. These include an equalizer tool, noise reduction tool, and sound direction tool.
To get started, select the program you want to customize and tap the settings icon in the top-right corner of the programs screen. From this page, you can also reset the program to the last hearing profile.
note: You must complete the personalization process before using the advanced audio settings.
Equalizer Tool
The Equalizer tool allows you to adjust and customize how the low, medium, and high frequencies are processed.
Use the sliders to make changes and make very small adjustments to one frequency at a time. We recommend first decreasing the frequency level you are getting too much of. This gets rid of sounds you are not happy with before adding additional sounds.
- Low-ton slider (truck icon): Reduce if sounds are muffled or you are hearing an echo.
- Mid-tone slider (voice icon): Adjust if you need more clarity in conversations.
- High-tone slider (bird icon): Adjust if sounds are "tinny" or seem like they are coming through a metal tube.
Noise Reduction Tool
The CORE hearing aid identifies and filters out distracting background noises to give you clear, focused sound. Background noise is anything outside the human speech pattern — air conditioners, traffic, plates clattering in a busy restaurant, etc.
The Noise Reduction tool allows you to determine the amount of background noise you want filtered out.
Use the slider to choose a setting—the higher the setting, the more background noise will be reduced.
Note: While the technology for separating background noise from the human voice is very good, be aware that using the highest level of noise reduction may remove some sounds you did want to hear.
Sound Direction Tool
The CORE hearing aid has directional microphones which help distinguish and focus on the sounds you want to hear (like a person talking in front of you) from the sounds you don't (like background noise).
The Sound Direction tool allows you to change the focus of the microphones' input.
Use the slider to choose a setting—each has different real world application and understanding their differences will help you decide which is best for you.
- General: Best for hearing sounds all around you.
- TV: Best for watching TV or when your sound source in front of you.
- Meeting: Best for listening in groups of 3–4 people.
- One-on-one: Best for one-on-one conversation in a noisy area.
Note: Sound Direction cannot be changed on the Automatic program because it automatically adjusts the microphones' input.
If these audio adjustment tools do not give you the results you were hoping for, our customer service team will be happy to help. Please submit a fine-tune assistance ticket or give us a call.
