The tubing on your MDHearing behind-the-ear hearing aid can be easily removed, cleaned, and reassembled by you—eliminating the need to make costly appointments and trips to a hearing clinic.
In this article, we'll discuss:
- The types of MDHearing tubing
- How to remove and reassemble "threaded" style tubing
- How to remove and reassemble "snap-on" style tubing
- How to remove and reassemble "twist-and-lock" style tubing
Types of tubing
There are three types of tubing: threaded style, snap-on style, and twist-and-lock style.
You’ll need to determine which type of tubing your hearing aid uses. The quickest way to do so is by reading your user manual (see the Replacing Parts section of your user manual).
With either style, the tubing should be cleaned regularly and replaced every 3 months.
Please note: Tubing is left and right ear specific.
MDHearing models that use the threaded style tubing are:
- AIR (series M)
- AIR (series E)
- VOLT MAX (series E)
- PRO (series M)
- PRO (series H)
MDHearing models that use the snap-on style tubing are:
- AIR (series H)
- VOLT (series M)
- VOLT (series H)
- VOLT+ (series H)
- CORE (series L)
MDHearing models that use the twist-and-lock style tubing are:
- AIR 3 (series A)
- VOLT MAX 2 (series AV)
Threaded style tubing: How to remove and reassemble
To remove the threaded style tubing:
- Rotate the tubing base counterclockwise, like a bottle cap.
- Continue to rotate the tubing base counterclockwise until the tubing and hearing aid body separate.
To reassemble the threaded style tubing:
- Simply rotate the tubing base back onto the hearing aid, this time in a clockwise motion.
- Make sure the tubing is flush with the sides of the hearing aid body and the tubing is facing forward when you’re done.
Snap-on style tubing: How to remove and reassemble
To remove the snap-on style tubing:
- Start by rotating the tubing base 90° counterclockwise. You may experience some resistance when removing the tubing for the first time.
- Once you've rotated the tubing base 90°, slide it off of the hearing aid body. Snap-on style tubing is more like a pop-off cap on a glass bottle, rather than a threaded cap on a plastic bottle.
To reassemble the snap-on style tubing:
- Simply push the tubing directly onto the base of the hearing aid. You don’t need to rotate the tubing on, it should just snap onto the hearing aid body.
- Make sure the tubing is flush with the sides of the hearing aid body and the tubing is facing forward when you’re done.
Twist-and-lock style tubing: How to remove and reassemble
To remove the twist-and-lock style tubing:
- Start by rotating the tubing base 90° counterclockwise. You may experience some resistance when removing the tubing for the first time.
- Once you've rotated the tubing base 90°, pull it off of the hearing aid body.
To reassemble the twist-and-lock style tubing:
- Hold the tubing base and line up the notches like a lock and key (on notch is larger than the other. If it doesn't fit at first, rotate the tubing 180°). Then gently push the tubing directly into the base of the hearing aid and twist 90° to lock it.
- The tubing should be parallel to the hearing aid body when you’re done.
